Question by kremliin2k: Where can I get business funding or grants?
Does anyone know where I can get funding or a grant to maintain my small business. I really am not looking for a bank loan, but rather something from the state or federal government. Its an online business and if anyone can be specific about what program or agency to look at, it would be wonderful.

All that you will be able to find are SBA loans. Grants are ONLY given out to non-profit, governmental, or social service type entities. Do not even waste your time or money looking for free money from the government, because it does not exist. The closest that you will find are tax breaks designed for small businesses….but nothing close to a check with no obligation to pay it back.

Question by PinUpGal: Where do I find private funding or grants for my charity?
I am not considered a non-profit because my company is not tax exempt. I own a very small contracting company and recently started accepting applications to do work for free on homes that are occupied by low income families. Some of these homes have lead paint, no windows, holes in the floor big enough for a person etc. We started with just a few applications and now they are non stop. Legally I was advised to wait to file for tax exempt status because it is very expensive and not neccessary if we can’t get sponsors BUT I am having a hard time getting donations from major corporations because of it, kind of a catch 22. They can still write it off on their taxes but they have strict rules about having to give to only non profits. We have small donations from private companies but with all the applications we need major money now. Does anyone know where we can get private or local grants (I live in PA), or where to start looking? I tried looking it up online but there is too much junk.

Question by A.J.: Have you heard of USA Funding Application?
Ok, I received a call yesterday about grants and what not, but they are asking for 11.95 fee for 30 days to have access to grants. After that 30 days, if you continue with the program it would be 14.95 a month. Please give me an opinion because I don’t like giving away money when it’s hard to come across.

This is a scam! Do not give them any information. The next time they call, hang up. The only place you should ever look at for grants is grants.gov. There is no such thing as a grant for personal reasons, to start a business except in very specific usually agricultural arenas, or to upgrade your home.

Question by : Biomedical research is a vague term. What are Obama’s proposed research grants funding?
In his recent speech Obama said he wanted to spend more money on biomedical research. What specifically does he want to research? He didn’t give the money to the scientist and say, do with it as you see fit. He must be funding a specific type of research.

Congress has not passed a law or appropriated any money for it.
And THEN HHHS would write regulations.

Hi everyone,
I am hoping to start up my own business in online Skincare and specialist beauty products. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good places to apply for funding/grants as I am struggling with start up costs. I am 23 years old. If anyone has any advice or tips it would be greatly recieved!

Go to http://grants.gov/ and follow the instructions. You will find that unless you are a nonprofit, in basic research or daycare, there are no grants for a small business. Some cities offer grants to small businesses if they will locate in the downtown area, for the purposes of building up downtown traffic. Check with your City Hall for details.
