Call your congressial district office, they usually have a grants person who can send you a package. Most of the time it will include SBA information or Small Business Administration. There are also areas called Small Business Development and Technical Centers that are funded by the fed.

You’ll need a good strong business plan and a budget before you apply for any grants. They dont give much grant money, but they do a lot of low interest loans, based on education, business plan, and current income.

There is a little money for minorities, but not much for women these days, as they are no longer considered a minority by the US CENSUS. White men took there place on the minority list back in 2000.

Honestly you should try for grants and loans, but not based on perceived shortcommings, and try to be successful all your own.

PSNH and its parent company, Northeast Utilities, are committed to helping the communities they serve protect the environment and preserve their rural charm.

Established in 1999, PSNH’s Environmental Community Grant Program provides support to nonprofit organizations, within the company’s service territory, that foster environmental preservation, improvement or education. Grants are awarded each spring and fall. The deadlines for submitting grants are April 15th and October 15th.

Environmental Community Grant Program

NU’s Environmental Community Grant Program funds local community and grassroots environmental projects that are often overlooked by large grant programs.

How does it work?

Grants between $ 250 and $ 1,000 are awarded in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Applications are reviewed by a team of NU employees.

Where Must Selected Projects Be Located?

Grant applications must be from organizations served by Connecticut Light and Power(CL&P), Western Massachusetts Electric Company(WMECO), or Public Service of New Hampshire(PSNH).

What kinds of projects are eligible?

Eligible projects protect or preserve the environment, or teach others the value of doing so. Examples include:

* Providing education on environmental issues of local interest to adults or children.
* Improving the environment through organized cleanup projects (such as cleaning up a park, part of a stream or a vacant lot) or by reclaiming and rehabilitating damaged environments.
* Improving a local wildlife habitat.
* Starting and maintaining a recycling program.

What are some examples of grants that have been awarded?

* Funding to the Massachusetts Audubon Society to develop detailed maps and guides using geo-positioning technology for High Ledges Wildlife Sanctuary in Shelburne, Massachusetts.
* A grant to the New Hampshire Natural Resources Commission to develop a trail sign system at Sargent Town Forest in Pittsfield, New Hampshire.
* Funding to Connecticut College to study biodiversity in power line corridors.

Has anyone used the website www.grants.gov to find federial grants?

1 Comment 29 April 2012

Question by Tenchidbz: Has anyone used the website www.grants.gov to find federial grants?
I am on it now looking for education and living grants, but it is asking for the CFDA Number and Funding Opportunity Number, and the Funding Opportunity Competition ID. The page wants either the CFDA number or the Funding Opportunity number. The problem is that it does not say what theese numbers are or where to find them. Is there a list of availible grants to choose from which would give me theese numbers? Thanks!

Most states have some sort of grant program since I do not know where you are from, go to www.dsireusa.org they have a listing of grants by state. I am from Wisconsin and the Focus on energy program will pay up to 25% of the cost but you need to follow their rules to get the money. I got a large grant twards the cost of my wind turbine.

Canada – anyone know when the government grants/rebates end for geothermal installation?

No Comments 19 April 2012

Question by : Canada – anyone know when the government grants/rebates end for geothermal installation?
I’m looking to build a home but the Canadian goverment (federal and provincal) do not offer any grants or rebates to owners looking to install a geothermal heating/cooling system in a new build. Only exisiting owners looking to renovate their home and upgrade to this system qualify. It’s approx. $ 8000 worth.

I’m told when the program ends there will be a big drop in geothermal installation costs since demand will likely drop without the government incentives.

The second one states the geothermal rebate is good till January 1, 2010. (scroll down the page)
Some rebates seem to depend on what province you live in.
Hope you can get a lower price..I looked into this when building our home, but couldn’t get any rebates either.

Look to your state’s housing commission for programs in your state. There are some programs for first time buyers in every state. I just did a transaction where the purchaser did not get a grant but she got a 5.9% interest rate. Programs vary by state so check out your state at:

Grants are hard to find if you are not doing research with a Ph.d as most are either educational or for scientific research.

Check out SARE as they are the entity that gives out more sustainable ag grants than any other US gov entity http://www.sare.org.
