where can i find out about free school grants for daughter who was in special education?

Question by Kimmie B: where can i find out about free school grants for daughter who was in special education?

Answer by Samantha
The school district where you live are required to provide free public education for your daughter who is in special education. Private schools are not required to do so. As far as grants, are you asking about grants to go to you or to the school? I have never heard of a grant going to the parent. Schools get grants frequently. Your local school administration can probably tell you what you need to know. It is public information.

where can I find info about gov grants and loans to open a resturant?

Question by rkf123: where can I find info about gov grants and loans to open a resturant?
I am a chef and would like to open resturant in buford ga where are gov grants and loans that I can apply for? or privite investors, how do I find them?

Answer by imisidro
It is hard to find grants to start a business, especially a restaurant. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for starting a for-profit business.

One possible exception is for companies developing or exporting agricultural goods, including food and forest product. Another exception could be the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs http://www.sba.gov/aboutsba/sbaprograms/sbir/index.html , which fund the research and development of technological innovation that meets specific government needs.

Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/mostrequesteditems/CON_FAQ2.html

“The U.S. Small Business Administration does not offer grants to start or expand small businesses, although it does offer a wide variety of loan programs. (See http://www.sba.gov/financing for more information) While SBA does offer some grant programs, these are generally designed to expand and enhance organizations that provide small business management, technical, or financial assistance. These grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments.”

Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov – these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture.

As for loans, check with your bank first. But restaurants are notorious for high failure rates, so you need to present convincing proof that you can repay the loan or provide something (collateral to pay for the loan)

Check with business people in your locality. They may know you and your abilities, and be willing to fund your new venture

Good luck

Answer by cottoncandy!!!!
Make sure your FASFA is in early before the deadline…this will automatically grant you State money..also have your daugther apply independent …she is more likely to get money…and depending on er major…see if that itended major has scholarships for her…search the web…money is in different places….contact the finacial aid office at her local school of now…or whereever she applys and ask them what ideas are best for assisitance…she is most likely going to have to pull out a loan…but get the ones that you pay back when you graduate…and you have like 10 years or more too….hope this helped. God Bless.

Look to your state’s housing commission for programs in your state. There are some programs for first time buyers in every state. I just did a transaction where the purchaser did not get a grant but she got a 5.9% interest rate. Programs vary by state so check out your state at:

Yes there are grants for schools, but NOT for starting a business contrary to what you heard

You can check about Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ or the Federal Pell Grant http://studentaid.ed.gov/students/public…

It is hard to find grants to start a business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for a for-profit business. And yes, grants mean PAPERWORK – lots and lots of it, that is why a cottage industry of grant writers was born.

Even if you buy books on “how to get grants” or list that supposedly has information on grants — all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently. But still the info is the same – hardly any grants for starting a for profit business.

Even SBA does NOT give out grants. From the SBA website http://www.sba.gov/expanding/grants.html…

Here is a listing of federal grants for small businesses. See if there is any available for individuals for starting a business — THERE’S NONE.

http://12.46.245.173/pls/portal30/catalo…

Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT – Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women’s Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women’s business center that will train women entrepreneurs

I have not applied for a grant like this. I have written educational grants. Be specific in what your goals are. Make sure that people can clearly understand your vision. I wish you the best of luck! I hope the links help.
