when can I receive independent status on pell grant? – florida.?

2 Comments 20 May 2012

Question by Ty Young: when can I receive independent status on pell grant? – florida.?
I’m 22 years old, born on nov. 6th, 1987 and I need to be an independent to apply for a pell grant since my parents can afford to pay for my college. How old do I need to be? 23?
Also, I have FL pre-paid which is a program that pays for 85 credit hours of tuition only. Would this be a factor in receiving a pell grant? Do I need to list this on my FAFSA? Thanks.
@ Roxanne, in FL that is not the case.

where can i find out about free school grants for daughter who was in special education?

Question by Kimmie B: where can i find out about free school grants for daughter who was in special education?

Best answer:

Answer by Samantha
The school district where you live are required to provide free public education for your daughter who is in special education. Private schools are not required to do so. As far as grants, are you asking about grants to go to you or to the school? I have never heard of a grant going to the parent. Schools get grants frequently. Your local school administration can probably tell you what you need to know. It is public information.

Does Canada have a national Chess competition where the Provinces compete?

1 Comment 19 May 2012

Question by Eric S: Does Canada have a national Chess competition where the Provinces compete?
If Not, I have an idea.

We have 8 evenly matched Chess Teams

1) Newfoundland & Labrador
2) Nova Scotia
3) Prince Edward Island & New Brunswick
4) Quebec
5) Ontario
6) Manitoba & Saskatchewan
7) Alberta & British Columbia 8) The Territories & Nunavut

First 1) plays 8). 2) plays 7) 3) plays 6), and so on….

For each team, the residents of the corresponding province elects 4 Expert Chess Players.

For each move in each game, the 4 expert chess players select independent options such as (move the knight 2 spaces, attack the queen, take out rook, etc)

Then an audience show of hands, votes which move to make.

The Champion province(s) for the whole tournament gets grant money to their provincial government from Ottawa.

Would this not be fun and ultimately Democratic???
The population won’t be exactly even, so we can just make adjustments to the amount of the grant based on who wins.

If Ontario wins you give them a little more because there’s more people.

Answer by X
they do, the easiest way is public school system, you face schools then go on to the provincials; private does that to but less of a chance, aldults can also play chess and compete against provincial

You will find that unless you are a nonprofit, in basic research or daycare, there are no grants for a small business.

national grants?

Question by zzzzzz321321: national grants?
i attened one of those national grants cofference should i sign up its about 1000 to get government grants

Best answer:

Answer by Krishi
My concern with National Grants conferences is that they encourage the perpetuation of the belief that anyone and everyone can get grants — which is absolutely false. True, grants given by the government are increasing, but whether anyone can get them for whatever purpose is highly debatable.

If you want information on grants, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov – these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the CFDA listings and see if you can find any grant that would support your purposes. Then apply for the grant at Grants.gov

Even if you buy books on “how to get grants” or list that supposedly has information on grants — all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently.

Note though that these grants generally support non-profit organizations, intermediary lending institutions, and state and local governments. Most of the federal grants are given to specific target groups with specific requirements (e.g. minority business owners involved in transportation related contracts emanating from DOT – Grant#20.905 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Short Term Lending Program. Individuals especially for personal purposes are not eligible for federal grants.

Grants are also often given to non profit groups or organizations involved in training or other similar activities (grant 59.043 Women’s Business Ownership Assistance that are given to those who will create women’s business center that will train women entrepreneurs.
